My wife and I were driving down the street andpassed a church that had this very strange message
on a sign that was on their property. I couldn't believe
my eyes so I stopped right in the middle of the street,
put our vehicle in reverse and said quite loudly, "I
can think of at least 5 reasons why my own mind could
never be my own church!"
Here are the 5 reasons I came up with. I might have missed a few
so I would like to enlist your help.
- I would get a little lonely from time to time.
- With what pops up here sometimes, would it actually be classified as a church?
- What will happen to the church when my physical body expires?
- My church would always be closed due to reconstruction and renovation.
- I guess I would never own the church and always be leasing, because the owner of the church is the one who gave me my mind.
- *I had to add a sixth reason: If the statement on the sign is correct, why is it outside of their actual church building?

WOW.... The physical mind is oft times conditional. It always changes, with various thoughts and situations. Hence, the church would be a place of instability if the two were so cohesively intertwined. I immediately thing of the text, Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it, Matt.16:17.The rock here represents stability, an unchanging thing. As we understand contextually, Peter was being asked of Jesus who does he identify Jesus as being. After answer properly, "Thou are the Christ" he says, "no flesh could have revealed this to you, but my father in heaven". So, Peter had not his own or fleshly mind, but he put on the mind of Christ. And this spiritual mind IS a place of stability, constisency. But we know in Matt. 26, just few chapters later, this same fella-Peter denies Christ thrice. Peter was in that flesh!(lol ). So would it be safe to say if the folks who created the verbage for the sign could make an admendment and say, "Having the mind of Christ develops a anchored church"?
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely the truth! What we are presently seeing in our nation is a cry for stability. Even the most educated, skilled, and brilliant minds are perplexed with the complexity of nations condition. In the midst of this time of crisis there has to be a resurgence of the identity of the church. Along, with the churches restoration of identity, purpose restoration will also occur. Matthew 5:14 provides a clear description of what to do in times of confusion and darkness...look for the church! "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid."
